I offer two choices of medium, or material in which your portrait can be created. You may choose between a drawing (called powdered graphite) or oil paint.
A portrait painted in oil paint on a canvas is the choice to make if you want a colorful, luminous and detailed portrait. If you choose to commission an oil painting, bringing your subject to life is done using professional quality professional artist's oil paints on stretched archival quality canvas. Small portraits can also be painted on archival quality paper.
A portrait done in powdered graphite will give you the effect of a black and white photo of your subject. Some colour can also be added using chalk pastel, which blends nicely with graphite as it is similar in texture. I also use some charcoal in my drawings to get very deep black and bright white. Graphite is what pencil leads are made of, and it can be applied with all sorts of different tools to create amazing effects in portraiture. If you choose to commission a powdered graphite drawing, your portrait will be drawn on professional quality artist's Stonehenge paper.
I also paint "portfolio pieces", which are paintings of people and animals that I do just to display at shows and in my portfolio as examples. These are quite often available for sale. If you would like to purchase a painting you’ve seen on the website, please contact me. These paintings and drawings are usually on 16” x 20” canvas, Stonehenge paper or canvas boards.
Please take time to browse the site, especially my credentials, the commission process and the portrait gallery. This will give you a very good overview of how we will work together to create a beautiful work of art that can be treasured by your family for generations.
